Art and Science Competitions

"Inexpensive Garb" A&S Competition

To enter, please provide a 3×5 card with documentation, and a list of how much you spent on each of the elements of your entry along with where you purchased them. The sources will be shared so everyone can have ideas of where to get materials from!

To compete, you must make garb from materials whose cost is not more than $50! The goal here is to show newer people or anyone facing financial difficulties that you can make good looking garb without spending a lot of money.

Rules:

1. The cost applies to fabric, trim, and accessories. It does not include things like needles, sewing thread, or other elements used purely in construction. Embroidery floss would count.

2. The fabric, trim, and accessories must be newly purchased. You cannot raid your stash for this contest, as a newer participant wouldn’t have a stash to raid. Again, needles, thread, and the like don’t count for this.

3. There is no minimum amount of construction to qualify. A single dress with no trim counts, as does a tunic with trim and embroidery. You could also do a hat, or a pair of shoes—accessories can be the whole entry.

Please direct any questions related to the competition to their excellencies Takauji and Lelia!

Found our website and thinking of sticking your toes in for your first event? Please join us for Winter Coronation! Coronation is a bi-yearly event to crown the heirs of the Kingdom of Calontir. Members travel from across the kingdom to socialize and observe the traditions of a start of a new reign.

This is a garb event- we will be in costume! All we ask is an attempt at pre-17th century clothing. If you feel like you don’t have anything appropriate, we have costumes that can be borrowed through our stash of garb called Gold Key. To coordinate something to wear at the event, please contact our Gold Key officer at goldkey@magmor.calontir.org. Gold Key will also be available on site during the event. Ask for it at Gate when you arrive!

To find out more about what to expect at the event, or to learn more about the SCA, please contact our newcomer’s liaison at chatelaine@magmor.calontir.org.

We hope to see you!
